Winter Boat Cover
Installation Guide

winter boat coversA Fisher Boat Cover is designed for protection of a boat over the winter season. They are designed to fit low on the hull. All covers are made of 10 oz cotton canvas treated with Duaffin. What is Duaffin? It is paraffin based water proofing and mildew inhibiting finish that is applied to the material in a plant in Ohio.

All Covers have a draw rope in the hem and tie down loops sewn into the hem as well to help hold the cover in place over the long winter. Vents are standard in all Fisher Boat Covers.

There are pairs of heavy duty webbing loops sewn into the bottom of the cover spaced approx. every 4'-5'. Tie off the right side loop to the corresponding left loop. Each pair ties off individually (don't lace them up). There is also a drawstring sewn into the bottom of the cover that you pull and tie off in the bow. This is for added secureness. We also install grommets in the bow in which you do lace up.

  Step1
You will need approximately 100' of rope per every 20' of boat.

  Step 2
Be sure to have some type of padding material on hand for any sharp point (carpet scraps, blanket, etc).

  Step 3
If your cover has the 2x4 support pockets, you will need to insert the 2x4's into the pockets standing on end (Do not lay the board flat). Measure the appropriate sections of your boat to determine how long they should be. Allow for an extra foot so the 2x4 will stick out of the sleeve 6" on each end. The 2x4 should be basic lumber, nothing pressure treated is necessary.

  Step 4
If your cover does not have the support pockets, then you will need to construct a support frame for your cover. The suggested material is either wood or electrical conduit.

winter boat covers - step 2 Installation

  Step 1
DO NOT UNROLL THE COVER ON THE GROUND!

  Step 2
Cushion all sharp areas with padding (antennae brackets, outriggers, etc.)

  Step 3
Roll out cover on top of the boat per the instructions stenciled on the cover (the stenciling and reinforcement are the inside of the cover).

  Step 4
Slide the 2x4's into the pockets on the outside of the cover (standing on end). You may want to wedge a "spreader" piece of wood in between the bottom of the back 2x4's. This will help prevent pooling of water in the case of a heavy rain or snow. The spreader can also be placed on top of the 2x4's. They will stay attached by placing a nail through the spreader into the 2x4 through the brass grommet we install.

  Step 5
Tie rope from loop on one side to corresponding loop under the boat (do not lace). Make sure rope is snug but do not pull tight.

  Step 6
Pull draw rope and tie off.

  Step 7
Lace up front grommets (with a separate piece of rope); making sure the flap is single against the hull.

winter boat covers - step 3 Removal

  Step 1
Cover must be completely dry and free of moisture.

  Step 2
Remove the 2x4's and untie ropes on one side, leaving the other end of the ropes tied to the cover (this will help you next season).

  Step 3
Work cover up one side of the boat and over the top. When you have the cover to one side, drop the cover to the ground. Be sure the cover drops free of the boat and does not snag and sharp corners.

  Step 4
Roll cover up so that the stencil on the side is showing (this will help you to start next season).

winter boat coveres - step 4 Storage

  Step 1
Store cover in a cool dry area. DO NOT leave the cover on the ground or on concrete as this will cause the cover to rot.

  Step 2
The best place to store the cover is in the rafters of a garage. If this is not possible, you can store the cover on a pallet or plywood

  Step 3
If the cover needs to be repaired, you should have this done now; do not wait until late summer/fall. Any canvas shop should be equipped to repair your cover or it can be returned to our facility for genuine Fisher service.

  Step 4
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR COVER OUTDOORS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME WHILE IT IS OFF THE BOAT!
